About Marsupials
Marsupials are mammals that carry their young in a pouch. They give birth to live young as all mammals do, but they give birth a lot earlier than placental mammals. The newborn, sometimes called a joey, then develops in the mother's pouch.
There are 250 species of marsupials, most of which are native to Australia and the surrounding islands, although some species of opossums and rat opossums can be found in North and South America. Marsupials are not native to Europe, Asia and Africa. There are some marsupials that have already gone extinct, like the Thylacine, a marsupial wolf.
