Placental Mammals

About Placental Mammals

Placental Mammals (Eutheria) are mammals that have a placenta which exchanges nutrients and oxygen and wastes between the blood of the mother and that of the fetus. This fetus stays in the uterus to a relatively late stage of development.

Placental mammals are a rather diverse group, with almost 4000 different species, that can be found all over the world. They include all living mammals, except for marsupials and monotremes.
